Gynaecologist and Obstetrician in Margate & Port Shepstone | Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
Women sometimes need surgery for conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis or pelvic organ prolapse. When surgery is being considered, I take time to understand your symptoms, explain the investigation and treatment options, and discuss whether a minimally invasive approach may be suitable for you.
I am Dr NT Sotsu, a specialist gynaecologist and obstetrician based at Margate Medical Centre. I completed a Fellowship and Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery (Laparoscopy) through World Laparoscopy Hospital in India. This additional training supports my work in advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgery.
Laparoscopy uses a small camera and specialised instruments passed through small incisions. Depending on the condition and your medical history, procedures may include laparoscopic hysterectomy, ovarian cyst removal, myomectomy for fibroids, surgery for endometriosis, prolapse repair, treatment of ectopic pregnancy, tubal re-canalisation, ovarian drilling for PCOS, surgery for urinary incontinence and vesicovaginal fistula repair. Not every procedure is suitable for every patient, and the recommended approach depends on an individual assessment.
For some patients, laparoscopic surgery may involve smaller incisions and a shorter recovery than open surgery. The likely benefits and risks vary by procedure and individual circumstances, so I will discuss these with you before a treatment decision is made. A consultation is also an opportunity to ask questions and understand what to expect before and after surgery.
I welcome patients from Margate and Port Shepstone, as well as Shelly Beach, Uvongo, Ramsgate, Southbroom, Port Edward, Hibberdene, Umtentweni, Oslo Beach, Marburg, Southport and nearby KZN South Coast communities. If you have persistent pelvic pain, heavy or irregular bleeding, or have been advised to consider gynaecological surgery, you can contact my practice to arrange an assessment.
